Connected - Parents’ guide to teens and technology
Presented by John Cowan and Dave Atkinson
Presenter John Cowan, together with youth specialist Dave Atkinson, in conjunction with Vodafone, will be delivering Connected presentations all over the country to show parents how they can help their kids get the most from modern technology.
"Top of the list, we want kids to be safe", says Dave. "Cyber-bullying is brutal – it genuinely wrecks some kids. And, without wanting to be alarmist, there really are creeps on the internet who are desperately trying to lure kids into 'real-world' contacts. Our kids need protection. This presentation will bring parents up to speed."

Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, David Thomson, and Shane Fuller are confident and focused. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood. While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. But they're quickly discovering that their standard is missing the mark.

Wairua Tapu - Speak to us again - Korero mai ano
This hui has the potential to be hugely influential as we listen to Mark Solomon as a key leader of Ngai Tahu, Ngaire Button as Deputy Mayor of Christchurch, Cindy Ruakere as a leading worship leader/ song writer in our nation, and Jason Westerfield, who comes from the United States with a heart to help to draw out the indigenous sound of the gospel in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Alistair Reese, a prominent theologian and historian, will also take a session and add to the dynamics of the hui in a substantial way. The name of the hui encapsulates its intent:
“Wairua Tapu Korero mai ano/ Holy Spirit Speak to us Again.”
Keith Newman’s book The Bible and the Treaty reminds us of the incredible impact of the gospel in the foundation of Aotearoa, and the favour and influence of the early missionaries. Governor Hobson’s words to each chief that signed the treaty were,
“He iwitahi tatou/ We are one people.”
Although we know that as a nation this has at times been a rocky journey, we need to believe again that this is God’s intention for our beautiful nation and that we (the church) are key to that coming to reality, and for those of us who are Pakeha to recognise and honour the Tangata Whenua, listen to their story, and work together for the destiny of Aotearoa to be fully released.
Come and be a part of the ongoing conversation. There is no charge for this event. This time together has the potential to be of huge influence and impact in our city and throughout the nation.

Update on Paul and Abby Hobson - our missionaries in Arnhem Land
Paul and Abby, Joshua and James have moved from Milingimbi to Gove.
Paul is settling in well into his work in Gove, he's enjoying being part of a team and in some ways even though the working hours are longer, it is less stressful.
The family is going to a great AOG church with whom they have kept in touch throughout their time in the community, the people are warm and friendly and they are pleased to be back in a place of worship and refreshment.
Please pray for Josh as he settles into Gove, he is enjoying life here but misses the familiarity of his home in Milingimbi. Please also continue to uphold the new Christians in Milingimbi, that they remain strong in their faith.

Update on Paul and Abby Hobson - our missionaries in Arnhem Land
Paul passes on a huge thanks for the email birthday greetings – ‘it was really special to receive them!’.
Paul, Abby and the boys have now left Milingimbi and are spending a few days in Darwin buying a 4WD vehicle which they then will drive to Gove via Katherine (a 2 day journey, much of which is off road). Please pray for them as they travel and as they make the transition to living in Gove (arriving 16 July). They will be based there for 5 months until they return to NZ. Paul‘s flying will remain the same with additional communities to fly into.
