Future Facilities

Corner of Halswell & Dunbars Roads, Halswell (map)

Our future venue will be in Halswell, on a piece of land owned by Living Waters Christian Centre on the corner of Halswell & Dunbars Roads. We will be setting up two permanent tents on this site to use as an interim venue until our new worship centre is built.
The way in which this piece of land came to be in the possession of Living Waters Christian Centre is a wonderful statement of God's promises and their fulfillment.

We hope that you will be encouraged as you read our story below.

The Vision for the Land

In 1992, the Lord spoke to senior pastor Wes Chambers strongly through Proverbs 24:27,

Finish your outdoor work and get your fields ready. After that, build your house.

Wes says,

This verse spoke so strongly to me and I knew that the Lord would have us build a complex for the church sometime in the future … This was a significant shift in my thinking as I had been of the view that large building projects were potential distractions and often a wrong use of funds … God had to shift my thinking toward His will.

In 1996, pastor Janet Chambers experienced a series of visions, including one of a building placed on the property on the corner of Halswell and Dunbars Roads. In that vision, this property belonged to Living Waters Christian Centre, and was the germination ground of many dreams, people, and ministries that would have a local, national and international impact.

This was obviously a vision of future events. In the vision, Halswell was busier, with larger buildings, new subdivisions and road expansions, and seemed to have grown to three times its size. It has been exciting to watch those exact subdivisions and roading developments actually unfolding, and to know that God’s design for the land, building and impact will also come to pass in the exact same way!

In the several years that followed, several attempts were made to enter into negotiations for purchasing the land at the corner of Halswell and Dunbars Roads, none of which were successful. The final communication from the owners came in 2002, when Living Waters Christian Centre was informed that the owners were planning to subdivide the land as a residential subdivision, and would not sell any part of it to Living Waters Christian Centre. This represented closure on the matter as far as those owners were concerned.

The Vision Fulfilled

In 2003, Living Waters Christian Centre received a call from Christchurch City Council, inquiring whether the church would be interested in acquiring that same piece of land on the corner of Dunbars and Halswell Roads. This would be a joint venture between Living Waters Christian Centre and the Christchurch City Council. This began a rapid and exciting process. Against many odds this process has been successful. A formal agreement was entered into, with the owners sub-dividing a piece of land for Living Waters Christian Centre and the Christchurch City Council, officially purchased exactly seven years since the vision in 1996.

Since 2003, the land has been developed, fences built, landscaping done and car parks established in preparation for all that is to follow, as the Lord has led. Living Waters Christian Centre will soon be established in an interim venue on the land, and is beginning to embark on the plans for the future building to come.

Praise God for His faithfulness!
